Sunday January 1st, 2012 - New Years Day City Fly-over
Every year the club hosts a City Fly-over on the morning of January 1st. The
route typically has us flying over the city and then around the outer
perimeter of Wolfe Island. Tradition has it, that if you fly this event,
then you'll have good luck for the remainder of the year. Well, this year we
had over 40 people cheering on the New Year which blew in here on a rather
cloudy, rainy day. That said, six airplanes took to the sky around 11:00 am
to welcome in a new aviation year. See a few pictures by clicking the New
Years button to the right..
Friday, Nov 18, 2011 - Private Career College,
Ribbon cutting
Today the Kingston Flying Club hosted an official ribbon cutting ceremony with city
officials and the Mayor in attendance. About 40 people in total gathered in
front of the Club's hangar while our own Club member, Phillip Brown acted as
MC for the event. Phillip introduced club president Dave Barton, our CFI,
Tony Tiefenbach, our MPP for Kingston and the Islands (John Gerretsen), -
and then later Mark Gerretsen (John's son), each of whom said a few words of
congratulations. In spite of it being a rather blustery November
afternoon everyone had a good time. Indeed, our youngest student pilot
helped cut the ribbon. See pictures by clicking on the College button

Saturday, Sept 17, 2011 - Nov 17, 2011 - Fuel System Upgrade
Dave Barton started digging the foundation for the Club's new fuel system
today. The new 10,000 litre tank will be placed above ground at the west end
of the property and will conform to all the new regulatory requirements.
Once the new system is up and running the old system will be shut off and a fund
raising effort started to pay for it's removal. Estimated removal costs are
around $10,000. See pictures using the New Fuel button to the above-right..
Friday, November 11, 2011 - Remembrance Day Fly-by
Our CFI, Tony Tiefenbach has organized a Remembrance day fly-by of the
downtown Kingston cenotaph using two Club airplanes and two other privately
owned machines. Oct 28 was our first practice run with Skuby - from Canada's
Snowbirds who provided a play-by-play on how the process is best
accomplished - and how it's done safely. Kudos to both Tony and Skuby for
making this happen. See the button at right for pictures.. Saturday, Sept 3, 2011 - New signs
Mike Hill, Dave Barton and Al Baldry spent the day erecting new Flying
Club signs. The posts went in on Sept 3rd and the signs went up after the
cement dried on the following Tuesday. Lorne took a few pictures that can
been by using the New Signs button to the right..
Saturday, September 10, 2011 - KFC Parry Sound Fly-out
We had four airplanes and ten people involved in one of the more enjoyable
fly-outs in recent memory. Parry Sound played host to a rather large and
well organized event which included vintage airplanes, cars, live music and
food. So Tony put together a deal whereby airplane renters or students could
each fly a leg of the journey and then continue on as a passenger for the
remainder of the trip. The trip route took AIQ from Kingston to
Peterborough, to Parry Sound - and then the same in reverse.
Ian Anderson was good enough to act as the instructor for the day. Avery
Wagg took POO up with a passenger and Gord Lendrum joined in with ZKT on his
way up to Sudbury. Click on the Parry Sound button above to see some
pictures..
