11th Annual Aviation Christmas Dinner - November 24, 2007

Yesterday, Dave and Lois Tisdale played hosts again, this time to 130 guests for their 11th annual Aviation Christmas dinner. Held in Kingston, Ontario on November 24th, this dinner has grown from a small group of aviation friends to a somewhat larger event.

Anybody who loves aviation is welcome. This is one of eastern Ontario’s premier aviation events where people from all across the spectrum of aviation show up. Private pilots are there, the ultra-light group, airport staff, kit-builders, veterans and military folks – anyone interested in aviation.

This somewhat low-key event can often shine with some great main speakers. For example, this year author and CBC journalist Ted Barris gave us a moving chronology of Canada’s victory at Vimy Ridge using a series of vignettes of individual participants. It was great.

Sean White played M/C moving everything nicely along and providing space for a series of speakers, each of whom gave us an update on their organization. Shirley DeSliva, Kingston’s airport manager, described two successive years of positive passenger and airplane movement growth. A new aviation business has sprouted up over at the Sterling airport which brought a nice round of applause. John Quarterman from COPA came down and highlighted some of COPA more recent wins - the 406 ELT issue being one of them.

The popularity of the dinner has grown over years mostly from the efforts of Dave & Lois. Both are good genuine folks who simply enjoy aviation enough to share their enthusiasm with others. And what better venue than a dinner. Thanks guys!

Fun Fly Day - Sept 8, 2007

Today's Fun Fly day was a lot of fun. Don from Kingston's Flight Service Station came over at 9:00 am to help with the Pilot Briefing and by 9:45 am the people lined up and started getting rides. Eight airplanes made 110 flights right through to 5:30 pm. See the button at right for pictures..

Young Eagle Day - July 7, 2007

The Young Eagles Day with the Leeds and Grenville Big Brothers/Sisters group went off without a hitch. We got all the flying and FSS tours done before noon and also before the rain came down. We flew 16 kids and also 8 of the Bigs. It was decided by the pilots flying, Sean, Ken, Willy Dog and Dave that they would donate the $15 per adult to the Social Committee funds. Many thanks to the pilots, Deb, Roxanne, Mark Prager, Michael and our famous photographer, Gord. On an interesting note, there was a Griffon helicopter today on the infield. Gord went over and checked to see if the guys would be interested in giving our group a tour of the helicopter. They welcomed us with open arms and did a fantastic job. Going as far as sitting in the heli and wearing the helmets. Hats off to them.

Mexican TGIF - July 6, 2007

Sean and Deb did an absolutely fantastic job with the preparation and cooking of the meal as well as the wonderful addition of strawberries and ice cream donated by Dan and Pen MacNaughton.  Sean put the peppers and onions on the grill and then started up the Barby. Sliced chicken was placed in a soft taco shell with the grill contents. Then grated cheese and salsa was added. It just doesn't get much better.  We cleared $23 profit - which is just great as it brought members together for a fun evening. Young Eagles - Apr 22, 2007

Today's Young Eagle session had 19 Air Cadets eager who were ready and eager to go for their first flight. Eight pilots volunteered themselves and their aircraft to host the event. A special thanks go out to those folks who rented Club aircraft to help make this day special for the kids. For more..

Councilor / Kedco Flight Day - Jan 20, 2007

Club pilots using their own or rented airplanes took four city councilors and a representative from KEDCO on a flight tour of the city today. While it was blistering cold day, everyone seem to really enjoy it. The day's mission, as it were, was to simply raise the visibility of aviation within our local community - and at least show the city "fathers" what we do in terms of flight training and Young Eagle flying. Read and see more using the Councilors button above.

New Years Day City Fly-over - Jan 1, 2007

Every year the club hosts a City Fly-over on the morning of January 1st. The route typically has us flying over the city and then around the outer perimeter of Wolfe Island. This year we had nine Club airplanes fly the event with Kingson's FSS people handling the traffic without a blink.

Tradition has it, that if you fly this event, then you'll have good luck for the remainder of the year. Click here for the pictures.
