Q     No. There are no requirements for completing one before the other.

Q     A Recreational Pilot Permit can be obtained with less flight experience then the Private Pilot Licence.

Q     A RPP cannot be endorsed with ratings such as night or multi engine where a PPL can. However, a RPP can be float endorsed.

Q     A RPP may not conduct trans-border flights. (Landing in the US)

Q     A RPP is restricted to flying aircraft with no more then four seats and may only carry one passenger.

Q     A PPL has no restrictions as to trans-border flights, size of aircraft, or the number of passengers.

Is flight training tax deductible as tuition and education and if so, how much of it is?

Q     Pilots who do not intend to pursue aviation as a career are not eligible to claim flight training as tuition.

Tax Deductibility of Tuition fees

Q     100% of tuition fees including books and GST can be claimed as education and tuition on the federal and provincial tax returns.  The amount that you will actually get to deduct depends on your income.  If you do not get to use all of the amount claimed in one year, it carries forward until it is gone.  All fees paid from the start of your training are applicable as long as you intend to work as a commercial pilot.

Q     You must sign a declaration on the form we provide you for tuition fees that states that you  intend to work in the occupation of Commercial Pilot, and that you were enrolled in the course to obtain skills in that occupation.
