A Night Rating allows the holder of a Private Pilot License to fly at night. The curriculum stresses the extra use of the instrument procedures for navigation and situational awareness.  Also highlighted are the various outside visual cues that are used for navigation as well as for takeoffs and landings.  This endorsement adds a great extra dimension to your existing PPL flying skills.

Prerequisites: An applicant must be a Canadian citizen, landed immigrant, or a person lawfully admitted into Canada for the purpose of flight training. An applicant must hold a valid Private Pilot License, issued in Canada or by a contracting state.

Knowledge: No ground school is required. Ground briefings associated with flight instruction satisfy knowledge requirements.

Experience: The night rating consists of 20 hours of flight time.  This includes 5 hours of dual night instruction and 5 hours solo at night. A total of 10 hours of instrument time must be completed. Instrument time acquired during Private Pilot's License may be applied toward this total.

Skill: There is no flight test for a night rating. Skill must be satisfied by a flight instructor.
