A Recreational Pilot Permit entitles the holder to fly an airplane with a maximum of one passenger on board, during day time hours, in fair weather conditions within Canada.  This permit does not allow for additional endorsements, such as night or instrument like the Private Pilot License offers - but does allow for a float endorsement. All training completed for this permit may be applied toward a Private Pilot License.

Prerequisites: An Applicant must be a Canadian citizen, landed immigrant, or person lawfully admitted into Canada for the purpose of flight training. An applicant may commence flight training at any age, but must be 14 years of age in order to fly solo, and 16 years of age prior to the issue of a Recreational Pilot Permit.

 

Medical: A Category 4 medical or higher is required prior to the issuance of a Recreational Pilot Permit.  A category 4 medical can be done by a general practitioner.  The medical examination is not required to begin flight training, but must be in the student’s possession prior to the first solo.

Knowledge: Students must obtain a minimum of 60% on all of the following areas of the written examination. Air Law, Navigation, Meteorology, and Aeronautics (general knowledge).  Our ground school course offers excellent instruction in these subjects and more!!

Experience: Transport Canada requires a minimum of 25 hours of flight time.

Skill: Upon completion of the flight training the applicant must pass flight test conducted by a Transport Canada Designated Flight Test Examiner.
